Senate Confirms Rtd. General Prince C. Johnson As Liberia’s New Defense Minister & Sara Besolow Nyanti As Foreign Min.

Liberia’s new President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s nominees as Defense and Foreign Ministers, Rtd. General Prince C. Johnson, III and Madam Sara Beysolow Nyanti have been confirmed by the Senate, says a press release from the Senate on February 9, 2024.

Before his nomination after Boakai’s January 22, 2024 inauguration, Gen. Johnson served as Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL). For the incoming Forein Minister, Madam Nyanti was one of two female presidential candidates in the October 2023 elections and prior to joining the political contest in Liberia, she served as Under Secretary General of the United Nations in New York.

The Senate release said their confirmation is part of several Presidential nominees confirmed at the Defense Ministry, the Armed forces of Liberia and other Government Ministries.

There confirmations were predicated upon separate recommendations by Statutory and Standing Committee reports. A release from the Press and Public Affairs of the Liberian Senate says, those confirmed are, Rtd. General Prince Charles Johnson, III as Minister of National Defense, Rtd. General Geraldine Janet George, Deputy Minister for Operations, Ministry of National Defense.

Others confirmed are B/Gen. Davidson F. Forleh, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia and General Theophilus Dana, as deputy Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia.

According to the Release, also confirmed by the Liberian Senate were, Serah Beysolow Nyanti, as Minister of Foreign Affairs while Dr. Louise M. Kpoto was confirmed as Minister of Health.

The rest of the Presidential nominees confirmed were, Cllr. J. Cole Bangalu as Minister of Youth and Sports and Gbeme Horace Kollie as Minister of Gender, Social Welfare, women and Children while, Lavia Roland Giddings was confirmed as Minister of Public Works, says a Senate press release signed by Alfred Johnson, Director/ Press and Public Affairs.
