State prosecution lawyers have been dispatched to Maryland County to indict one person in connection to the killing a motorcyclist in that southeastern county, an incident that sparked widespread violent protests leading to the destruction of private and public properties.

The team is headed by Assistant Justice Minister for Litigation Cllr. Wesseh A. Wesseh, according to the Justice Ministry. The team left Monrovia over the weekend to prosecute perpetrator(s) of the murder that has been linked to ritualistic killing.

They are expected to convene a special grand jury in Harper for an indictment against lone suspect Moses Manba, who has since been charged with murder and criminal conspiracy

The late Modicious Nyema was reportedly murdered by the accused and several others yet to be apprehended.

House Speaker Bhoffal Chambers, whose private residence in Pleebo was among several properties damaged in the county during the violent protests that followed the murder, is calling for thorough investigation into the killing.

He believes the arson attacks was a diversionary tactic employed by perpetrators to shift the attention of investigators from the crux of probe into the killing of the motorcyclist.

Speaker Chambers is meanwhile calling for an end to ritual killings in Maryland County, terming the practice as being “subhuman”.

President Weah recently imposed a dusk to dawn curfew throughout the County in the wake of the rioting resulting from Nyema’s death – an apparent ritual killing.

He then assured Marylanders that his government would ensure that perpetrators are made to face the full weight of the law, while at the same time pleading with residents to process their grievances through appropriate legal channels instead of resorting to taking the law into their hands.

Besides police reinforcement, troops were also called in from the Armed Forces of Liberia to help keep the peace.
