Former Montserrado County District # 8 Representative, Acarous Moses Gray from the former ruling CDC party has led a relaunch his attack and smear campaign against a prominent Liberian Journalist, Frank Sainworla, Jr., which he started in 2018 after ex-President George Manneh Weah took power.

“I am disappointed in Frank Sainworla this morning…. Frank Sainworla that I know very well has been anti President George Weah,” said Rep. Gray as he spoke on the Fabric FM’s Christmas morning live phone-in talk show on 25 December. Rep. Acarious Gray brands Journalist Frank Sainworla as “Anti Weah” – News Public Trust

Gray was defeated in the October 2023 legislative election by the then opposition Unity Party (UP) candidate Prince Toles.

CDC “General” Acarous Gray’s latest attack is almost like a replay of what he said both on radio and on the Social Media back in December 2018.

Like then, Rep. Gray and some CDC stalwarts have taken to the Social Media to  question the independence and professional credibility of Mr. Sainworla who is Managing Editor of the Public Trust Media Group (PTMG) which runs the news website— www.newspublictrust.com.

In his latest post in the BANA FM 98.5/TV Radio chatroom owned by a top CDC lawmaker, Gray, who is referred to as the “General”, writes:

“You don’t love Weah and I know this personally and you have never been so critical on UP. You do have a soft spot for them,” Mr. Gray posted a few days ago.

The radical CDC executive, who first wrote under the pseudo name, “Cdc Pele”, was only able to come out and identify himself after the News Public Trust Managing Editor posted his initial reaction challenging the poster to unmask his/her identity and face him in a conversation regarding the smear campaign launched. “If the “Cdc Pele” knew who Frank Sainworla really is (past and present), he/she wouldn’t be saying such about me,” said Sainworla, the former Station Manager of Radio Veritas and one-time head of the English Desk of West Africa Democracy Radio (WADR) in Dakar, Senegal.

That initial reaction triggered almost immediate unmasking of the “Cdc Pele” who came up and identified himself through his post claiming that Journalist that Journalist Sainworla has been hating ex-President Weah for many years now.

In their latest misinformation smear campaign, the bellicose opposition CDC politician and his supporters such as Aloysius Howe claims: “Frank is a notable critic of the immediate past government but an admirer of the current,” something which Journalist Sainworla rubbishes.

In the chatroom, there were some reactions and counter reactions to former Representative Gray and his CDC supporters claims.

However, ever since it was founded by him several years ago, this news outlet www.newspublictrust.com has proven to be committed to good and independent Journalism with no loyalty or “soft spot” for any political party and/or politician from Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf to the George Manneh Weah and now the Joseph Nyuma Boakai regimes.

“We are dedicated to promoting responsible, open and frank exchange of ideas–to agree to disagree, through dialogue and not antagonism with malice to no one. we shall not negate our public service and loose the public trust principally for profit motive. Ours is an entity that sees itself as a private creature with a public heart,” says the Editorial policy of this independent news house.

This is evident by the way this news treatment this online newspaper gives stories and the mix of features and opinion pieces it publishes on a daily basis, says Managing Editor Sainworla.

Just a snippet of stories we have published in the past few months is a testimony of News Public Trust’s editorial independence in line with its vision and mission.

“Vision: Blending the rich experience of the past with the present to build a brighter future

Mission: We are on a mission with a vision to serving the public good with integrity, through credible, accurate, reliable, fair, balance and courageous coverage of the news in real time.”

Journalist Sainworla, former Chairman of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) Grievance and Ethics Committee, feels strongly that if Gray and his other CDC supporters were thinking right they would have taken cue from what and how this news organization has been covering a range of issues since the current government came to power in January this year.
