People in the Bassa Community in central Monrovia have endorsed Cllr. Charlyne M. Brumskine, who is running mate of Alexander Cummings on the ticket of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) in the October 10 presidential election, as the campaign officially opens in Liberia.

Charlyne is the daughter of fallen Liberty Party’s founder and leader, Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine, who was a prominent leader of what is called “the Bassa land”.

Before being chosen by Cummings as the CPP Vice Standard Bearer, she had embarked on an initiative to run for representative in District #3 in Buchanan area in Grand Bassa County, her late father’s home town.

The colorful ceremony was followed by the presentation of rice, traditional prayers, and traditional rituals where she was asked to remove her slipper and step on the” holy ground” indicating the turning over of the land and their support to her.

The program took place Friday, August 4, 2023, at the historic site, the Duport Road waterside in District four of Montserrado County that brought together elders, chief, Women, youth, and Union of Bassa citizens including Mamba Bassa in Montserrado County.

Speaking on behalf of the group, the head of the Chief and elders, Mr. Clarence Neyor said they as Bassa people are ready and prepared to work with their daughter in making sure that her dream comes to pass.

“We the Monrovia maba Bassa and Montserrado County, are telling you, we give the country to you. Our ma then says, our pa then says, our children and our people say, we give you this land. We are not selling our land for smoked fish again but now we are supporting our daughter to become Vice President too,” Chief Neyor said.

Chief Neyor however promised the group commitment to work with Cllr. Charlyne M Brumskine in every way possible to ensure that their daughter is elected.

In remarks, Jeh Byron Browne observed that Grand Bassa is politically under attack.

He wants the Bassa people to pray and hold together and support Cllr.  Brumskine.

“We have decided to officially turn the Bassa land over to you because we believe that Grand Bassa County is under attack politically and there is no way that the people of Bassa can support another person other than you our daughter and therefore, on behalf of the Bassa people, the chief, elders, and women we present this token of endorsement in the name of the father, the son, and the blessed holy spirit” Mr. Browne presented.

In response, CPP’s Vice Standard Bearer Cllr. Charlyne M. Brumskine expressed her thanks and appreciation for the support from Montserrado most especially the Basaa people.

“Today is one of the greatest honors of my life. I am so happy to be here today, what happening here is bigger than politics. Thank you the Bassa people for giving me this land. This land is holy and I am grateful,” the daughter of the late Cllr. Charles Brumskine noted.

She maintained that the Liberty Party which was established by her father was intended to allow the people of Bassa to have a voice politically in the country.

She at the same time assured them that the Liberty party would never die in Liberia but urged supporters, stalwarts, partisans, and sympathizers who left the party during the crisis to come home nothing that the party was for them and it was time for the Bassa people.

The CPP Vice Presidential aspirant at the same time vows to work with the Bassa people, respect, love, and care for them as her late father Cllr. Charles W. Brumskine has for the people of Bassa and Liberia at large.

According to her, the people of Bassa will not continue to support other people’s agenda stressing that the Bassa people are ready to go up and that she is ready and prepared to bring pride to the Bassa land.

” Now is the time to support our own and lift Bassa. I need all the women to be behind me and support us. Da the Bassa people time now, to the women, tie your lappa I need you to stand behind me and take me from town to town, village to village, and community to community and make sure the Bassa people win the elections,” she urged her kinsmen.

She however called on the Bassa people to continue to work with her, be with her, help her, and fight with her to give the Bassa people a voice.

” I accept the endorsement and I say thank you,” Cllr. Charlyne Brumskine concluded.
