MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia’s Criminal Court ‘C’ is expected to launch an investigation into the alleged jury misconduct or tampering in the 6.2 million corruption case involving former Finance and Development Planning Minister, Samuel Tweah, and four others, on Wednesday, May 20.
Judge Ousman Feika’s decision was a result of a complaint filed by three of the fifteen-man panel jurors, alleging that some of their colleagues were involved in jury tampering, which led to the acquittal verdict of defendants Tweah and Moses Cooper, while two defendants were adjudged guilty.
Ahead of Wednesday’s proceedings, the Court has summoned all the jurors who were involved in the just-ended 6.2 million corruption case, including the sheriff, Bailiff, and the head of the office of the jury management, as well as assigned police officers at the Juror Quarters.
Reports also say that Wednesday’s proceedings will be closed to the public or done in Judge Feika’s Chambers, where both defense and prosecuting lawyers will be part of the proceedings.
On May 8, the jurors rendered a controversial ruling, acquitting defendants Samuel Tweah and Moses Cooper, but later held defendants Jefferson Karmoh and Nyenati Tuan guilty, while Stanley Ford was awarded a hung verdict.
