Dehradun-India- Police in Khanna city are investigating another Liberian student identified as Promise Worzeen Klehkleh for allegedly raping a 22-year-old woman from Zimbabwe, who is studying at a Mandi Gobindgarh Institute.

The suspect, who is a Finance and Development Planning Ministry employee currently on study leave, is the second Liberian student here to be arrested for allegedly committing rape, appeared in a local court on Wednesday, April 19, 2023. He was later remanded in police custody.

Both the accused and victim lived in separate rented apartments in the same colony in Khanna City and are pursuing higher education at separate private institutions near Khanna.

Two months ago, Indian police also arrested another Liberian man, Carlos T. Dahn, who is a student at the Guszar Group of Institutions (GGP) for allegedly raping a Liberian female student in Punjab state.

Suspect Dahn is also an employee of the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP) who is on study leave. In Liberia, President George Manneh Weah recently declared rape as a “national emergency” in his country.

The Hindustantimes this week that the latest rape defendant, Promise Worzeen Klehkleh came close to the Zimbabwean female student on the cause of assisting her with cooking her food but later forced himself on her.

The victim in her complaint to the police on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 said, the accused invited her to his brother’s room on Tuesday evening and they both were drinking alcohol when she entered their room, but refused their offers to join them.

According to her, while preparing food for herself in the kitchen, the accused walked to the kitchen and started molesting her. But although she resisted, he did not back off and kept on forcing himself on her, the young Zimbabwean woman explained.

The accused then went to her room after she returned to her house, she added.
