Lifeless Body Of A 27-Year-Old Woman Discovered Hanging In Her Home

KAKATA, Margibi County–The Liberia National Police here is currently investigating the tragic death of a 27-year-old woman, Mariama Shaka, which is initially being linked to alleged suicide.

Mariam’s lifeless body was discovered hanging in her residence early Saturday morning, July 26, 2025, as Liberians began preparing to celebrate their country’s 178th Independence Anniversary.

The incident came to light at about 7:30 Am, when local resident, Mr. Prince Okon reported discovering Ms. Shaka’s body inside her home. Police then promptly recorded the case under entry number 573 and dispatched a team, led by Chief Investigator Joseph B. Diggs to the scene.

According to Police investigation, upon arrival, investigators found Ms. Shaka lying face-up, a lappa tied around her neck, positioned beneath a wall-mounted clothes rack, and partially concealed by clothing.

Several photographs were taken for evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.

Key developments during the investigation revealed that Ms. Shaka and her husband, Mr. Bilal R. Shaka, had engaged in a serious altercation the previous evening, Friday, July 25, between 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM. According to Mr. Shaka.

Suicide cases are said to be high in Margibi County since the start of this year.

But regarding last Saturday’s incident, Police are yet to complete their investigation to establish exactly what happened.
