Liberia Intellectual forum opposes Weah’s whites citizenship call

(Last Updated On: )

A popular group in Liberia, the Center for the Promotion of Intellectual Development (CENPID) has registered its opposition President Geroge Weah’s proposal to give citizenship to people of non-negro decent and dual citizens.

The Chairman of Intellectual Discourse of CENPID, Attorney Kalifa Sheriff, said the giving citizenship to people of non-negro decent will negate the indigenous citizens and drive them away from the big cities and towns.

Addressing a press conference in Monrovia recently, Sheriff also rejected the proposal by President Weah that the Liberian Constitution be amended, in order to allow dual citizenship.

He also expressed dissatisfaction about the conflicting amounts coming from the former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and President George Manneh  Weah on what’s in the national coffers.

The CENPID Chairman said the conflicting amounts said to in government’s coffers disclosed by the former and current governments have put the citizens in a confused state.

He spoke of the need for both parties to harmonize their financial statements.

Attorney Sheriff cautioned the Weah government to take the fight against corruption  as a serious endeavor by prosecuting those linked to this menace, if she wants to minimize this devilish altitude in this country.

He then advised the President against nepotism and favoritism, because these vices have the propensity to undermine national development and bring the government brought to power by masses down.

CENPID is meanwhile commended the President George Manneh Weah for ascending to the highest office in the land.

The group described the appointment of   young people in the new government as a right step in the right direction. Report by Augustine Octavius
