News Public Trust- www.newspublictrust.com  continues its series with various perspectives from students of Liberia’s state owned University on How the New Media/Digital Media Has Changed The Way They And Others Communicate.

The way we communicate has changed greatly. Prior to this Digital Media age, the old people used Drums and Town-crier to pass out important information to the people.

But nowadays, we use digital television, online radio and other communication systems that give us information’s of important. Before then, we never had the Social Media that helps us to send pictures and text to other people near and far. It also connects us with others from around the World.

It is a reality that our ways of communication has changed to the extent that we  sit in our various homes and make calls around the globe.

Secondly, something like video editing was too complex and difficult. But nowadays, we have various editing software which can be used to edit videos in the shortest possible time.

Thirdly, Digital Media has made the World a global village where it brings us closer to the World and its happenings.

Some other major changes experienced

In terms of getting information, we need not go to the Library to get information these days. But rather, we can use our Phones, laptops or other gadgets to get what we need within a twinkling of an eye.

No doubt, it has changed or reduced the way we used take and process pictures, documents or any important information, such as using the Post Offices. However nowadays, we can use our phones to send pictures, videos and other important information to our Friends, Family and love ones through the Social Media. We also used the media to make video calls both far and near.

Digital Media has changed in the sense that things can be happening in another country and I can be informed like if to say that I was present, eg: like the happening in Guinea.

It helps boost the education system in a way that people are able to do their school work online, even if there is a crisis in the country and enhance the ability of students to learn in a comfortable environment. The only hindrance will be limited access to data.

Views and experience of some friends and relatives

For Mother Christine K.M. Vanjah, the way we communicate has changed greatly.

Mr. Alex S.T. Newmah says this has made the world a global village, where it brings us closer to the world and its happenings.

Both Mother Vanja and Mr. Newmah agree with me that there are advantages and disadvantages about the new digital media trend.

  • People are giving misleading information or stories to the public.
  • People are using it to hick account of others
