KAKATA, Liberia- It has been reliably learned that about 38 detained suspected criminals early Sunday morning, April 24, 2022 escaped the police withholding cell at the Liberia National Police detachment here in Margibi County, 72 kilometers east of Monrovia.

The detained suspected criminals, according to a police source who preferred anonymity, were undergoing police investigation on multiple felonious charges ranging from theft, robbery and involuntary sodomy, among others.

Our source further disclosed that the overpowered a Patrol Officer identified as Joseph Tokpah, a second shift supervisor after he went into the police withholding cell on Sunday April 24, 2022 about 07:50am for reason yet unknown. He was nursing wounds sustained from assault meted against him from the escaped suspects.

The anonymous police source quoted other officers outside the police station as saying the suspects managed to have broken some of the metal steel bars placed at the top of the cell to prevent escape, and used such steel rods as weapon against officer Tokpah who entered the cell alone by hitting him on his head, something that weakened him.

Among the suspects was Timothy Clarke, a 48-year-old man and a resident of Weala, who was charged with involuntary sodomy but among the escapees yet to be rearrested.

Our source however, said that frantic search is ongoing by the police to have all of the suspects rearrested as serious interest is being placed on re-arresting suspect Timothy Clarke.

Timothy Clark alias, “Coach Clark”, allegedly sodomized a 7-year-old boy in Weala on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at 23:00hrs.

He was arrested and taken to the Women and Children Protection Section (WACPS) of the Liberia National Police in Kakata on Thursday, April 23, 2022 where he was reportedly charged with involuntary sodomy.

Clarke was expected to be forwarded to court on Monday April 25, 2022.
