But None Of The Escapees Has Been Tracked Down So Far

‎‎KAKATA, Liberia–More than 100 inmates reportedly to have escaped from the Kakata Central Prison in Margibi County, following an alleged breach of the prison facility over the weekend as Joint security forces are now said to be in hot pursuit of the fleeing prisoners.

‎An eyewitness, Princess George, told journalists in Kakata that she was coming from to her house when she observed Armed Forces of Liberia -AFL personnel pursuing a group of individuals believed to be prisoners.

‎‎According to Ms. George, the soldiers were chasing the inmates after the prisoners allegedly damaged part of the prison facility and fled the compound.

‎‎She said she saw more than 100 individuals believed to be inmates escaping from the prison, adding that the group she observed consisted entirely of male prisoners.‎

The Justice Ministry in a press statement said security forces are doing everything to ensure that the escaping inmates are rearrested, urging citizens to cooperate and not to shield any escapee.

But residents of Kakata and its environs are said to be panic over the latest jail break.

‎Some residents expressed concern, warning that the presence of escaped inmates in surrounding communities could pose a security risk to residents.

‎‎One of the residents, Ms. George is therefore calling on the national government and relevant security authorities to take immediate action to address the situation and ensure the safety of residents in Kakata.
