CDC Gov’t big promise again: 1 million people to be lifted out of poverty

The ruling CDC government in Liberia has made another promise to lift about one million people out of poverty in the next five years through its “Pro-poor agenda, a policy document which is yet to be published..
The Deputy Finance Minister for Economic Management, Augustus Flomo disclosed that agriculture is the main sector through which the government will be able to improve lives of the Liberian people.
Minister Flomo made the disclosure at the official launch of the recovery and reintegration project organized by the Welt Hunger Hilfe with funding from the German Development Bank.

“This is what we that are sitting in authority are having in our plan for the people and this can be achieved mainly through agriculture,” he told his audience.
“We cannot all this by ourselves but we have to do this thing in partnership with international partners and donors.”
In remarks, the Country Director of the Welt Hunger Hilfe Liberia, Johan Van Der Kamp, assured the Liberian government that his organization will doo all it can to reduce poverty in the country.
He added that his organization will empower women, recondition road to markets, empower advocacy organizations in order to the benefit of no less that 60.000 people in the southeastern region of the country.
Kamp welcomed the cooperation of the Ministries of Public Works, Agriculture, Education and Health in the implementation of the various projects in the southeastern region of Liberia.
He said the overall objective of the program is to contribute to sustainable socio-economic development, food and nutrition security improvement in the southeastern region.
According to him, his organization also intends to support the needed market integration and economic sustainability in all interventions.
Kamp expressed optimism that the cooperation of the various line ministries will yield a successful outcome in the implementation of the project.
Performing the launching of the project, Deputy Health Minister for Administration, Norwu Howard, encouraged the WHH to always include the Health Ministry in its under taking because government is facing challenge in staffing  clinics in especially in rural Liberia.
