The Liberian government has expressed concern following reports of the ill health of former Vice President Joseph N. Boakai, who is said to have checked into a local hospital last week, an Information Ministry said recently.

Mr. Boakai is also the Standard Bearer of the former Unity Party (UP) and is expected to be on the party’s ticket in the October 10, 2023 presidential election.

Last week, amid mounting speculations concerning the state of the UP leader’s health, the party issued a statement saying: “The UP informs the public that Amb. Boakai is fine and in good health.”

He was said to be admitted at the ELWA hospital for few days reportedly on observation for fever.

“As a statesman and political leader of a national party, his well-being is of utmost interest to the country,” said the government’s released signed by Information Minster Ledgerhood Rennie.

In view of the foregoing, the Liberian government said that it has initiated contacts with family members of the former Vice President and offered to help in whatever way they deem necessary, while also wishing him a speedy recovery.
