The Alumni Association of Wells-Hairston High School on Mechlin Street in central Monrovia has lost one of its most illustrious members, Mr. George S.G. Thomas, Sr. of the Class of ’83.
According to his son, George Thomas, Jr., Alumnus Thomas, Sr. passed away in the early hours of Saturday, July 12, 2025 after a period of illness in Monrovia.
George, who was always upbeat about life in spite of many challenges, had good human relations and he was always concerned about the advancement of his Alma mater.

He leaves to mourn his loss his mother, children, a host of relatives and friends.
News of the homegoing of George Thomas, Sr. has been received with deep shock by his many fellow alumni, friends and others both at home and abroad.
One of his classmates and fellow alumnus, Frank Sainworla, Jr., Managing Editor of www.newspublictrust.com broke down in tears early this morning (Saturday) when he received the sad news from the son of the deceased.
Mr. Sainworla described his fallen former classmate as “a great friend whose passing has dealt a great blow to the Wells-Hairston High School Alumni Association, especially the Class of ’83.
The News Public Trust Managing Editor described his fallen former classmate as “a great friend whose passing has dealt a great blow to the Wells-Hairston High School Alumni Association, especially the Class of ’83. One never lost hope when in his company, because he always looked at the positive side of life.”
Meanwhile, as his funeral arrangements are being made, the George Thomas’ family has announced that they will be holding the first meeting on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at the family home up Ashmun Street behind the Cathedral High School at 3:00Pm.
