The Fellowship of Christian Councils and Churches in West Africa (FECCIWA) expresses deep sorrow and grave concern over the horrific and senseless killings of fellow Africans over the past days and weeks in South Africa.
We at FECCIWA, stand in solidarity with the African Methodist Council (AMC) and the South African Council of Churches (SACC) in unequivocally condemning these atrocities and harassment of both legal and undocumented African in SA, some, who have legitimately resided in the country for many years with their families. These repeated attacks have caused unimaginable pain, trauma, and suffering—especially for the families, friends, and communities of the victims. The growing frequency and brutality of such violence must no longer be tolerated.
FECCIWA echoes the urgent call by the AMC, SACC and all well-meaning Civil Society and Faith Based Organisations, for the South African Authorities and security agencies to take immediate and decisive actions to protect lives and to ensure the safety of all people affected by these Xenophobic/Afrophobia attacks across the country.
FECCIWA urges the South African Government, the security forces, and all stakeholders—including local, state, and national political leaders—to move beyond condemnation and work collaboratively to end the cycle of violence.
Concrete, coordinated, and sustained efforts are needed to restore trust, uphold the rule of law, and secure justice and peace for all.
We pray that the government and its agencies will demonstrate the political will and moral responsibility required to bring lasting peace to South Africa.
Justice must prevail. The perpetrators of these heinous crimes must be apprehended and held accountable to preserve the sanctity of life and deter future acts of violence.
FECCIWA extends heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and communities.
May those displaced by these senseless acts find safety, peace and solace among our brothers and sisters in the community. May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace; and may healing and hope find their way into the hearts of those affected.
As a regional ecumenical body committed to peace and justice, we continue to uphold South Africa in prayer and solidarity. May justice reign throughout Africa.
Stop the violence. Stop the harassment, stop the killings. Let peace prevail.
