LOFA COUNTY, Liberia – As government makes efforts to pave the main highway leading up to Voinjama and up to the Sierra Leone border, some roads in towns and villages need rehabilitation.
One of them is in the Lukambeh and Wanhassa Administrative District in the northwestern Lofa county.
Citizens in the area are appealing to the Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Public Works to urgently rehabilitate the Popalahun–Lukasu–Kailahun Road.
According to them, the road which is a vital transportation route that has deteriorated significantly.
The appeal comes from residents of Segima, Nyandiama, Gbelahun, Lukasu, Kailahun, and several surrounding towns and villages, who say the poor condition of the road continues to create serious challenges for commuters, farmers, traders, students, and healthcare workers.
According to community members, the damaged road has made transportation difficult, especially during the rainy season while at the same time, limiting access to markets in order to sell their products, including limited access to schools, health facilities, and other essential services.
They noted that agricultural produce often cannot be transported on time, resulting in financial losses for local farmers and traders.
Residents believe that rehabilitating the road would improve economic activities, facilitate the movement of people and goods, enhance access to education and healthcare, and strengthen development efforts across the two administrative districts.
The citizens are therefore respectfully calling on the Ministry of Public Works including members of the Lofa legislative caucus to consider as a prioritize the rehabilitation of the Popalahun–Lukasu–Kailahun Road as part of the country’s infrastructure development agenda.
They believed that, prompt attention, to their appel will improve the road network and will significantly enhance the living conditions of thousands of people in the two administrative districts and neighboring communities.
