To Provide Scholarship Opportunities For Students

VOINJAMA, Lofa County — The President of the Free Pentecostal University (FPU), Pastor Dorbor Akoi, has called on the Liberian government to support the institution through educational subsidies and scholarship opportunities for its students.
Pastor Akoi says government assistance is essential to enabling students from economically disadvantaged families to access and complete university education, particularly those from rural communities.
The FPU President made the appeal amid growing concerns over the financial challenges faced by many students pursuing higher education in Lofa County.
He is urging the central government, through the Ministry of Education and other relevant institutions, to consider Free Pentecostal University students in national scholarship and financial-aid programs.
Pastor Akoi’s appeal also comes at a time when stakeholders are increasingly calling for greater investment in higher education and improved access to educational opportunities for young Liberians.
He emphasized that providing scholarships and subsidies would not only reduce the financial burden on students and their families but would also contribute to the development of a skilled workforce for Liberia.
The university has also been involved in expanding academic programs, including efforts aimed at addressing gaps in sectors such as healthcare.
The FPU President therefore encouraged the Government of Liberia to adopt a more inclusive approach to scholarship distribution, ensuring that qualified students attending private and faith-based institutions are given fair consideration alongside students at public universities.
He further appealed to lawmakers, county authorities, development partners, philanthropists, and other stakeholders to support students through scholarships, tuition assistance, and other forms of educational support.
Pastor Akoi believes that investing in students today will help produce the professionals, educators, health workers, administrators, and other skilled personnel needed to advance Liberia’s development.
The call is expected to generate further discussion among education stakeholders on how government and partners can expand access to higher education, particularly for students from rural and underserved communities.
