VOINJAMA, Liberia — The IntoFawor Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative Society in the northwestern Lofa County has been reactivated following several years of inactivity attributed to poor leadership, weak management and other internal challenges.
The reactivation was formalized by the Cooperative Development Agency (CDA) of Liberia during a ceremony held on September 17, 2026 in Foya, Lofa County, where the cooperative was awarded a full-fledged cooperative certificate and new leaders were inducted into office.
The event brought together farmers, cooperative members, local authorities, community representatives and officials of the Cooperative Development Agency, who welcomed the revival of the farmers’ organization.
Speaking during the ceremony, CDA Registrar General of Liberia Madam Lwopu G. Kandakai emphasized the importance of effective leadership, transparency, accountability and proper management in ensuring the sustainability of cooperative societies.
She encouraged the newly inducted leadership to work collectively with members, maintain proper financial and administrative records, and ensure that the cooperative’s activities are conducted in accordance with Liberia’s cooperative laws and regulations.
The reactivation of the IntoFawor Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative Society is expected to provide a renewed platform for farmers to organize, improve their agricultural activities, access services and explore opportunities for collective marketing and economic empowerment.
Speaking on behalf of the Local Government Minister Hon. Francis Sakila Nyumalin, the Assistant Minister for Technical Services Orlando Armah, challenged the newly inducted officials of the cooperative to work collectively as a team to transform the cooperative positively.
“Today, you are not just receiving titles but you are receiving trust and also receiving responsibility” he noted.
He disclosed that the transformation of the IntoFawor Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative Society depends on the newly inducted board members; and as such, a lot more will be required of them.
He then challenged other farmers and members of the cooperative to actively participate in the affairs of the organization and hold their leaders accountable for the proper management of cooperative resources.
The newly inducted leaders, in accepting their responsibilities, pledged to work with members to restore confidence in the cooperative and ensure that its objectives are achieved.
The leadership also expressed commitment to promoting unity among members, strengthening the cooperative’s management structure and creating opportunities that will improve the livelihoods of farmers.
As a way of appreciation, citizens and local government officials of Foya through the district traditional council named the CDA Registrar General, Madam Lwopu G. Kandakai as (Siah Foya).
The ceremony marks a new chapter for the IntoFawor Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative Society after years of inactivity, with stakeholders expressing hope that the renewed leadership will avoid the challenges that previously affected the organization.
