Through Community Outreach In Bomi County
BOMI, Liberia – The President of the KOICA Alumni Association of Liberia (KAAL), Mr. Allison K. Telee has reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations between Liberia and South Korea through knowledge sharing and community-driven initiatives, a press release said today, Monday.
The association, composed of Liberian professionals trained in South Korea under the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), continues to expand its impact across the country through targeted outreach programs.
Members have benefited from specialized training in diverse fields, including finance, public health, agriculture, and substance abuse prevention, equipping them with skills to contribute meaningfully to national development.
Speaking during a recent outreach initiative in Bomi County, Telee explained that the association operates on three core pillars: knowledge sharing, promotion of bilateral relations, and corporate social responsibility. He noted that the outreach to communities in the Dewhein District was part of the organization’s ongoing effort to give back.
“Our goal is not only to share the knowledge we acquired in Korea but also to support communities in need,” he said. “This initiative reflects our commitment to strengthening the relationship between Liberia and South Korea while improving the lives of our people.”
Institutions that benefitted from the donation includes Jenneh Health Center, Beh Town Public School, and Bogbeh Public School.
The weekend outreach initiative, led by KAAL President Mr. Allison K. Telee, alongside President Emeritus Mr. Frederick B. Krah and members including Mr. Amadu Kpahn, Mr. Madison Kegbeh, Otis Bundor, Gwee K. Porkpah, and Tony Gbaryu among others, saw the presentation of rice and other items to support vulnerable the workers of the health centers and students of the public school.
The outreach, valued at approximately US$1,000 in in-kind contributions, included the distribution of essential items such as rice, cooking oil, and assorted food supplies. The support, provided through collaboration with the Government of South Korea, targeted vulnerable households in selected communities.
According to Telee, the selection of beneficiary communities was guided by an internal committee tasked with identifying areas of greatest need. He emphasized that the initiative is not a one-time intervention but part of a broader, sustained engagement strategy.
Beyond immediate relief, the association plans to expand its interventions into critical sectors such as health, education, and agriculture. Educational materials, including copybooks, are also being distributed to support students, while future initiatives may target healthcare facilities and agricultural development programs.
Telee underscored the importance of continued support from development partners, particularly the Government and people of South Korea, noting that resource constraints remain a key challenge.
“We commend the Government of Korea for its continued support,” he stated. “At the same time, we hope for increased resource allocation, as our ambition is to do more for communities across Liberia.”
Established in December 2024, the KOICA Alumni Association of Liberia currently has a growing membership of over 50 professionals. As more Liberians participate in KOICA-sponsored training programs, the association continues to expand, strengthening its capacity to contribute to national development efforts.
The association has also conducted similar outreach activities in other counties and intends to broaden its reach in the coming months. Telee called on beneficiaries of the program to act as ambassadors, spreading awareness of the initiative and fostering community engagement.
“We believe those who benefit from this support can help extend the message and impact to others,” he added.
The KOICA Alumni Association of Liberia remains part of a broader global network of alumni chapters, including those in Ghana, Nigeria, and Cameroon, all working to promote international cooperation and sustainable development.
