President Boakai Concludes State Visit to Ethiopia, Secures Bilateral Agreements in AI, Science, Technology, and Education

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia–President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has successfully concluded a high-level state visit to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, culminating in the signing of key bilateral agreements aimed at strengthening cooperation in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Science, Technology, and Education.

The agreements, formalized through Memoranda of Understanding, were signed on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the National Palace in Addis Ababa. The respective Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Liberia and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia signed on behalf of their governments, marking a significant step in advancing mutual development priorities.

During the visit, President Boakai engaged in a series of official activities reflecting the depth of Liberia-Ethiopia relations. The President laid a wreath at the Adwa Victory Memorial Monument in honor of the heroes of the historic Battle of Adwa, followed by a guided tour of the adjoining museum.

At the National Palace, President Boakai received full state honors, including an official welcome ceremony and guard of honor. He later held a tête-à-tête with his Ethiopian counterpart, during which discussions centered on bilateral relations, regional cooperation, and shared strategic interests.

The two leaders subsequently convened an expanded bilateral meeting involving senior officials from both governments. Their deliberations focused on enhancing collaboration across key sectors, particularly education and emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence. These engagements culminated in the signing and exchange of the Memoranda of Understanding.

As part of the visit, President Boakai also toured modern irrigation-based urban agricultural facilities, showcasing Ethiopia’s advancements in sustainable agriculture, and visited the Ethiopian Air Force Base.

The Liberian Leader’s visit highlights Liberia’s efforts aimed at fostering strategic international partnerships that promote innovation, capacity-building, and sustainable development.
