Liberia reaffirms commitment to One China Policy

The Liberian government remains committed to the One China Policy, Vice President Chief/ Dr. Jewel Howard-Taylor has said.

The Liberian Vice President made the statement this week, when she received in audience   the new Chinese Ambassador accredited to Liberia, Ambassador Fu Jijun.

Madam Howard-Taylor who warmly received Ambassador Fu Jijun at her Capitol Hill office in Monrovia, expressed appreciation for the visit.

She commended the Government of the People’s Republic of China for its continued support to Liberia over the years, especially their contributions during the Ebola outbreak and re-emphasized Liberia’s commitment in adhering to the One China Policy.

VP Howard-Taylor thanked the new Chinese Ambassador and people of China for the longstanding partnership and stressed the need to further strengthen bilateral relationship and cooperation.

According to a release from the office of the Vice president, the Liberian Vice President particularly mentioned the rehabilitation of the Monrovia Vocation Training Institute- MVTC but hoped that similar gesture could be extended to other counties in Liberia with the objective of reaching out to the rural communities to empower the youth through skill trainings.

VP Howard=Taylor also stressed the need for advance training opportunities for her office staff and other Liberians in the near future.

For his part, Ambassador Fu Jijun used the occasion to convey sincere greetings and felicitations on behalf of the Chinese President, Xi Jinping and underscored China’s commitment to Liberia’s progress.

He commanded the government for the introduction of its pro-poor policy which he believes, will help to alleviate poverty among citizens.

The new Chinese Ambassador however called on the George Weah-led government to invest in agriculture, an investment he holds, will also boast the economy of Liberia.

Ambassador Fu Jijun said China remains committed to supporting such investment if consider by the government.
