KLAY, Liberia–The Liberian government through the Ministry of Transport, has broken ground for the construction of a regional transport hub her in the western Bomi County.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, and brought together local officials, civil society organizations, youth groups, and residents of the district.
The ceremony marks a major step in the government’s decentralization drive aimed at bringing essential services closer to citizens in the leeward counties.
Speaking during the ceremony, Liberia’s Minister of Transport, Sirleaf Ralph Tyler, said the initiative is not simply a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a facility, but laying a foundation for inclusive transportation.
Minister Tyler said the project is intended to bring accessibility and increase economic opportunities for residents of the Western Region.
“This is not just about building a structure. We are laying the foundation for inclusive transportation, for accessibility, and for economic opportunity for our people in the West,” Minister Tyler Disclosed.
He disclosed that the regional hub reflects the Government of Liberia’s commitment to decentralizing transport services and bringing government services closer to the people.
According to him, the hub will serve residents of Bomi, Gbarpolu and Grand Cape Mount Counties who currently travel long distances to Monrovia for transport services.
The Minister noted that when completed, the facility is expected to strengthen the delivery of transportation services, including promoting road safety, vehicle registration, and driver licensing.
Minister Tyler disclosed that the monetary value of the project is over one hundred and eighty-five thousand United States dollars and is expected to be completed within one year.
Meanwhile, several local officials across the county commended the government for the initiative, describing it as timely and developmental.
“For too long we have suffered to go to Monrovia just to get a license. This hub will bring great relief to us and save our people time and money.” Klay District Commissioner Momo Seh Stated.
According to them, upon its completion, the initiative will reduce the burden on citizens and improve compliance with transport regulations.
They pledged their full support towards the successful implementation of the project and called on the contractor to ensure quality work.
The project is being implemented by Work Well Construction Company, a Liberian-owned construction firm.
