Liberian Man Sent To Court For Allegedly Raping & Murdering Girl,13

TEMPLE OF JUSTICE, Monrovia – A 32-year-old man,  Abraham Wento has been sent to court for allegedly raping and murdering a teenage girl in Boys Town, Margibi County, outside the Liberian capital.

Defendant Wento, who was charged with the crimes of rape, murder, felonious restraint and Abuse of corpse, carried out the act recently against a 13-year-old girl.

This is In violation of Chapter 14,sub-chapter “A” section 14.1, section 14.51, Chapter 14 section 14.70 and Chapter 18 section 18.2 of the revised penal law of the Republic of Liberia, police in Monrovia has charged and sent to court

According to Police investigation of the killing by the offices of the crime against person and women and children protection section, it was established victim Grace Tamba, on December 11,2021, at the afternoon hours, victim Grace Tamba was sent by her Guardian Patricia Golo into the community to buy peanut butter to prepare soup for their rice that they had earlier cooked before going to church.

The investigation revealed that the defendant in an exclusive interview admitted that the guardian of Grace Tamba always shared food with him, and more besides he usually send her to work for him.

According to the police charge sheet, victim Tamba left and went to buy the peanut butter from of their neighbors house which is about three(300) meters away from the victim’s house.

Police charge sheet also disclosed that when the victim to purchase the peanut butter, she went missing and when her parents realized that she has gone missing, they took said information of the missing person at the Boys town police station and a search was launched for the 13-year-old victim.

The police investigation further uncovered that in the evening hours of December 13, 2021,, victim Tamba’s lifeless body was discovered in the swamp behind Mr. George Yeagar house within the Gbeh’s town Avenue community by residents of the community. The body was examined and the body was deposited at the JFK medical Center, where a post morten examination was conducted by the County Coroner of Montserrado County.

Defendant Wento was arrested on December 17, 2021 in Zwedru City, Grand Gedeh County after he (defendant Wento) went at the Zwedru Police station reported himself and told police that he was the one who killed victim Tamba in Monrovia and escaped to Grand Gedeh. He later escorted from Zwedru to Monrovia at the national police headquarters for further investigation.

Defendant Wento said his reason of doing such was, he was promised by an individual whose name was not disclosed for US$15,000 to travel to Australia but he denied raping the victim but admitted of killing the victim and he tried to dispose of the body by interring the body. But it was difficult for him as he tried digging a grave but could not complete it as day light was approaching, he explained.

After allegedly killing the victim, he informed the business partner that he has done what he was told to do and his business partner came and allegedly raped the victim and placed tissue between the victim’s legs and promised to call him. But the defendant told the investigation that he neither received a call from his business partner nor the money he was promised.

Investigation findings 

“That defendant Wento took advantage of victim Tamba guardian who is a disabled lady and call the victim at his house under the pretense of sending her to do some work, thereby restraining her in his room and started molesting her and in the process, he killed in order to erase evidence.

 That the defendant Wento during interview conducted with him at the crime against person unit, he admitted that he choked the victim with his right hand, covered the victim’s mouth with his left hand at which time victim Tamba went unconscious.

That defendant Wento having noticed that victim Tamba went unconscious, he took shovel and hit her on the left shoulder and head with the sharp edge.

 That the distance Wento house where he called the victim and later killed is measured 95ft.”
