LNP Investigates Two Students for Death of 11th Grade Student
Monrovia-The Liberia National Police says, it has arrested and is investigating two students, Jovanus Oliver Turay, 16 and Matthew Gonkerwon, 17, of the Cyber-ED Christian School of Excellence in Congo Town for allegedly shooting a colleague, Precious Ireland, 14, on her neck with a 9mm pistol.
According to the LNP, the two suspects were picked up early Tuesday morning, April 13, 2021 at 8 AM by the Anti Robbery Unit of the Liberia National Police on the campus of the school.
The LNP further mentioned, According to the Principal of the school, Emmett Chapin, he was only called in at 7:45 AM and informed of the shooting incident where victim Ireland was seen lying unconscious.
Mr. Chapin told Police investigators that he and his colleagues did not have any knowledge about the main suspect, Jovanus Oliver Turay of carrying a gun on the school’s campus.
At the same, LNP says its Police investigators are currently speaking with parents of the suspects, the victim and the school administration in establishing circumstances surrounding the shooting incident.
The suspects are currently in Police custody and are currently undergoing investigation, it stated.
Meanwhile, the Liberian national police has stated to the family of the deceased victim and the public, that they can be asssured that justice will be served.
