Monrovia, Liberia–The Executive Director of the Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC), Cllr. Jerror Cole Bangalu, has announced plans for a nationwide biometric profiling and documentation exercise targeting 140,600 undocumented migrants residing in Liberia.
Speaking Thursday at the Information Ministry’s press conference, Cllr. Bangalu said the initiative is intended to provide the government with reliable data to support effective migration management, national planning and security.
According to him, the exercise has received approval and instructions from President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and is expected to commence with field activities in the coming days. He said the current estimated target population is approximately 140,600 individuals across several counties, including Nimba, Grand Gedeh and Maryland. Counties
Cllr. Bangalu explained that the biometric profiling will enable authorities to establish credible information on the identities and legal status of people residing in Liberia. He said the exercise will also help the government better understand who is entering the country, who is leaving and the circumstances surrounding their movement.
The LRRRC Executive Director stressed that the documentation exercise should not be viewed as an act of persecution, but rather as a government effort to establish reliable information that can guide appropriate policy, security, humanitarian and diplomatic interventions.
Meanwhile, Cllr. Bangalu disclosed that the LRRRC is undergoing a broader institutional transformation in line with Executive Order No. 159, issued by President Boakai in March 2026.
