A gathering is expected to take place today, Friday, August 7, 2026 to mark exactly one year after the first mass demonstration of the collective will of the vast majority of the Liberian people to fight the trafficking, use and abuse of narcotic drugs in this West African country, organizers say in a press statement issued in Monrovia yesterday.

Follow-Up Commemoration of the August 7, 2025 National Anti-Drug Campaign
Under the Banner: “Trudging for Answers”
The Coalition of Rehabilitation Centers and Advocates (CORCA), Prevention Institutions, Former Drug Users, and Current Victims of Substance Use Disorders respectfully invite the Government of Liberia, development partners, civil society organizations, the diplomatic community, religious institutions, the media, youth organizations, students, community leaders, traditional leaders, women and youth groups, and the general public to a special follow-up gathering commemorating one year since the historic National Anti-Drug Campaign held on August 7, 2025.
On that historic day, thousands of concerned Liberians marched in unity under the banner “Trudging for Answers” to declare “Enough is Enough” to the growing drug crisis. During the peaceful demonstration, a petition was formally presented to the Government of Liberia, calling for urgent and sustained action to address substance abuse, strengthen prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and recovery services, and protect the nation’s young people.
One year later, this commemorative gathering provides an opportunity to review the progress made, reflect on commitments undertaken, identify remaining challenges, and renew our collective resolve to confront substance abuse through prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, recovery, and reintegration.
Although meaningful progress has been made, the fight against drugs remains a shared national responsibility. Lasting success will require continued collaboration among government institutions, prevention institutions, rehabilitation centers, former users, current victims, civil society organizations, development partners, schools, faith-based institutions, families, communities, and every Liberian.
As we commemorate this important milestone, we call on every citizen to renew the national commitment to protecting our youth, supporting recovery, strengthening families, and building a healthier, safer, and drug-free Liberia.
