There has reportedly been an arson on the headquarters Liberia’s national elections body in the Sinkor section of the capital, Monrovia, the National Elections Commission (NEC) said on Tuesday.
In a statement on March 16, 2o21, NEC has strongly condemned an arson attack on its 9th Street premises, late Monday night at about 10:30pm.
The country’s electoral body noted that unknown persons threw petrol bombs on the compound of the its headquarters, which set ablaze a double cabin pickup, marked LB-6868 and the zinc roof of the garage.
The commission puts the cost e the cost of the damages to about forty five thousand United States dollars.
Preliminary investigation proved additional unexploded petrol bombs were found near the NEC fence on the 10th Street side.
NEC says it is supporting the Liberian National Police investigation into the arson attack on its premises with the hope that perpetrators will be found and brought to justice.
Meanwhile, authorities of the Liberia National Police have informed the National Elections Commission that they will strengthen security at the compound of the Elections Commission. Report by Augustine Octavius, augustineoctavius@gmail.com
