BUCHANAN, Liberia – Police in Grand Bassa County have tracked down a suspected hardcore armed robber only identified as Prince, who they say has been involved with series of armed robberies in this port city, 88 miles from Monrovia.

Suspect Prince was arrested late Monday afternoon, after a manhunt was launched at every police checkpoint and community in the county to get them.

It added that the gang, headed by Prince, is well-known for terrorizing people with guns, cutlasses and other deadly weapons. And they are suspected to be behind other violent attacks in Buchanan and its environs.

Police Commander, William Johnson told our reporter that though they have arrested the gang leader but the other four individuals, three males and one female who are yet to be identified will be arrested as well.

Commander Johnson said that the alleged armed robbers on Sunday night were making an attempt to burglarize an electronic materials shop on Tubman Street using oxygen spray to create an opening in the container.

But, unfortunately, their action raised concern to community dwellers and they came out which did not allow them to penetrate the container and take the goods from in it.

The Police Commander said though the others four have escaped but the vehicle that was used to carry out the criminal act has been arrested and impounded at the police headquarters on the fairground in Buchanan while police officers have been deployed to arrest them.

He named materials found in the gang vehicle as knives, oxygen tanks, cooking gas, plier, pink bar, chaser, hard saw, screw, jack, car battery and other deadly weapons.

The commander mentioned that the group recently burglarized a business center near the SDA School on Tubman Street in Buchanan and made away with over 5-thousand United States Dollars including goods valued about 1-hundred thousand Liberia dollars.

Commander Johnson noted the group also recently stole over hundred pieces of phones, flat screen TV, discs, and several valuable items including money from a store under the welcome gate in Buchanan.

Meanwhile, the Police Commander in Buchanan is calling on residents of the county to remain calm as they are working with partners to have all of them arrested to face prosecution.
