New York– His Excellency, Joseph N. Boakai, President of the Republic of Liberia, will later today, Thursday, September 24, 2026 address the General Debate of the Eighty-first (81st) Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
This year’s High-Level Week is being held both in person and virtually, on the theme “Restoring trust, managing transformation: a United Nations that delivers for all”.
It highlights the urgency of delivering on the promise of the Sustainable Development Goals and reinvigorating global cooperation, as well as key thematic areas including peace and security, sustainable development and the SDGs, climate action and the SDGs, climate action & environmental protection, human rights, equality, and humanitarian action.
President Boakai will be the 11th speaker at tomorrow morning’s session of the UN General Assembly, joining world leaders for the anticipated General Debate from 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. New York time.
President Boakai’s address will focus on a range of pertinent global and national issues, including Liberia’s role in achieving global peace and security, sustainable development, and climate change, among others.
The General Debate of the UNGA81 Session will take place from September 22 to 28, 2026, featuring speeches from Secretary General Antonio Guterres, President of the General Assembly Khalilur Rahman from Bangladesh, and host President Donald Trump.
Other notable events during the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly include a high-level meeting commemorating the 28th anniversary of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action.
The morning session is widely regarded as one of the most significant and highly visible periods of the UN General Assembly’s General Debate, providing Heads of State and Government with a major platform to present their countries’ priorities, aspirations, and vision before the international community.
