An unexpected but colorful scene unfolded today, Friday, November 28, 2025 at the Booker Washington Institute (BWI) campus in Kakata, Margibi County, when scholarship students of the BWI and PSPP program honored the President Pro-Tempore of the Liberian Senate, Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence.

Pro Tempore Lawrence receive the honour for her continued support to education—particularly technical and vocational education (TVET).

Speaking on behalf of the students, PSPP Student Prefect P. Ernest S. Dolo expressed deep gratitude for the President Pro-Tempore’s contributions to Liberia’s educational advancement.

“We are grateful for such a gesture, Madam President Pro-Tempore, and this initiative is indeed a pride for the development of our country,” Dolo said.

He further appealed for an expansion of the scholarship program, citing that PSPP students are largely self-supported and would benefit from increased assistance.

The student leadership also presented a proposal for the construction of a Peace Hut to serve as a relaxation and activity space for students. In consultation with the school’s administration, they proposed naming the facility the “President Pro-Tempore Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence Peace Hut.” A blueprint and a cost estimate of USD 5,860 were presented.

During her remarks, President Pro-Tempore Lawrence welcomed the proposal, humorously noting the students’ strategy in naming the project after her before seeking support.

“How can you name a project in my honor and I haven’t even contributed yet? Anyway, I accept and to show my willingness, I am giving an initial contribution of USD 1,000 to start the project,” she remarked.

According to the proposal, the project is scheduled to run from 28 November 2025 to 28 February 2026.
