SPORTS: Liberia’s 3rd Division Clubs Weintown United FC and Africa Sports Academy Share Points

HARBEL, Liberia- The Unification Sports Pitch in Harbel staged the final game in the first phase of the competition over the weekend as Weintown United FC and Africa Sports Academy share points.

It was indeed a classical and well entertaining fixture at such venue on Sunday, 26 February which saw the two clubs playing to a one-all-draw during the full 90th minute of the match.

Bill Momolu puts the visitor Weintown United FC ahead in the 26′ mins to give the home team a 1-0 lead over Africa Sports Academy but with 19′ mins plus added left to end of the first half Africa Sports Academy inform midfielder Chris Harmon got the equalizer for his club in the 32′ mins of the match to make it 1-1.

Back from recess the home team created several chances but failed to get on the score sheet due to good defending and goalkeeping from the back four of Africa Sports Academy and goalkeeper James Morris.

And with just minutes to climax the game, Mohammed F.  Kamara could have score on his debut for his new employer Africa Sports Academy but the on-loan player, Prosper FC player Kamara didn’t materialize such opportunity by giving his new employer Africa Sports Academy all three points as both clubs played to a one-all-draw at full time.

Bill Momolu lone goal in the match marks his second goal for Weintown United FC in the competition while on the other hand Chris Harmon equalizing goal in the match marks his first in the competition.

Momolu lone goal helps Weintown United FC retain seventh place while Harmon goal that salvage the point for the Margibi County Champions and helped the club in maintaining sixth place.

In other results over the weekend, SUSA FC and FC Quincy settled to a one-all-draw at the same venue above mentioned on Saturday, 24 February.

Scores in the added minutes after the full 90′ mins to salvage a point for SUSA FC while Dekagai Suah got on the score sheet for FC Quincy to marks his first goal for FC Quincy.

At the opened-air Nancy B. Doe Sports Stadium in Kakata on 21 FC SLY FC defeated One Goal Football Academy 1-0.

Emmanuel Bonkor lone goal for SLY FC earned the home team a narrow win over One Goal Football Academy.

As the first phase ends on 26 February FC Quincy is on top of the league table with 14 points from 8 games while on the other hand JABU FC sit at the bottom of the league table.

Blamo Weah of Weintown United FC tops the goals scoring chat in the competition this far. Weah registered 8 goals in the competition from 8 appearances this season since the competition.

The LFA-Margibi Sub-Association Third Division League previous season was won by Africa Sports Academy.

Africa Sports Academy clinched the 2022/2023 Upper Subcommittee of the LFA- Margibi Sub-Association Third Division League and moreover clinched the Margibi County Champions after defeating Weintown United FC 1-0 at the Unification Sports Pitch in Harbel in 2023 to become the County’s Champions.

The second phase of the League starts in March at the two venues of the competition namely the Unification Sports Pitch in Harbel and the Nancy B. Doe Sports Stadium in Kakata, the capital city of Margibi County.
