EC Christian Weah Sr. Heads Delegation For International Friendly Ahead Of African Cup Of Nations

Amid growing calls for more competitive international friendly matches, Liberia’s Lone Star football team is this weekend facing Sierra Leone’s national team in a pre-Africa Cup of Nations friendly.

The Liberia Football Association (LFA), through its President, has appointed EC Christian Weah Sr as Head of Delegation for the Liberia National Football Team, the Lone Star.

The Stages Queen FC CEO EC Weah lead the Liberian delegation to Sierra Leone marking his first official assignment since his election for the first leg of the friendly scheduled for Saturday, June 6, 2026. The return leg is set for June 9, 2026, at the in Paynesville.

The delegation which left Liberia on Friday, 5 June comprises of heads from the local football house, the team, hundreds of fan and including sports journalists.

Although the appointment has not yet been officially announced by the Liberia Football Association, EC Christian Weah Sr. confirmed the development in a Facebook post on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, where he expressed gratitude to LFA President Mustapha Raji for the opportunity.

In his statement, he wrote:

“I have been appointed by the President of the Liberia Football Association as the Head of Delegation for the Liberia versus Sierra Leone match on June 6 in Bo Town, Sierra Leone. I appreciate the opportunity and look forward to a victorious outcome in my first assignment.”

The newly elected Executive Committee Member Weah, who also serves as Chairman of the LFA Ticketing Committee, becomes the first Executive Committee member appointed as Head of Delegation since President Raji was elected unopposed to lead the affairs of the Liberia Football Association for the next four years.

EC Christian Weah Sr. secured his position on the Executive Committee during the 30th Ordinary Elective Congress of the LFA held on May 15, 2026. He obtained 26 of the 49 votes cast, defeating Cllr. K. Jlayteh Sayor Sr., who received 21 votes. The victory came after both candidates were tied at 25 votes each in the first round of voting.

Meanwhile, it can be recalled that, a UEFA Pro License holder, signed a three-year contract with the Lone Star on May 18, 2026. The Moroccan-Belgian tactician has already named a 24-man squad for the back-to-back international friendlies against Sierra Leone, with preparations currently underway at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville.

Erradi was appointed as head coach of Liberia’s senior men’s national team following the departure of interim coach.

His mandate includes rebuilding the national team and preparing Liberia for the qualifiers of the.

With preparations intensifying, Liberian football fans will be eager to see the Lone Star’s performance under its new technical leadership as the team begins a new chapter through these international friendlies against Sierra Leone.
