Traditional people in southeastern Liberia are in the constant habit of carrying out jungle justice against peaceful citizens without anything being done about their brutal acts.

At times whenever they have meted out brutality against peaceful citizens, when law enforcement officers go to arrest them, they put country devil outside.

They are described as all law people or people above the law.

After brutalizing a 41-year-old man in Joe Village District Since County, five members of the traditional Council were arrested for severely beating on a man in the name of selling narcotic substances.

The joint security of Sinoe County early on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 arrested five people for allegedly brutalizing a Nigerian identified as Chuman Dennis.

The traditional people in the area had earlier accused the Nigerian national of being in the constant habit of selling illegal substances in the district which has the propensity of damaging the future generation.

They said the selling of illegal substances in the district is strongly prohibited by their tradition

Chuman Dennis was reportedly tied and flogged for 24 hours.

But Chuman has since denied being involved in any narcotic drug trade.

Meanwhile, the office of the Representative of Electoral District #2 Sampson Q. Wiah has called on the Liberian National Police to initiate a speedy investigation into the matter.

According to reports, this is the third time of such incidence of traditional groups brutalizing citizens in Sinoe County has been reported.

It can be recalled that last year, a woman was stripped naked in Numopoh Kpanyan Statutory District in Electoral District #1, Sinoe County

Another incident of such took place in Grisby farm in Butaw where a lady was over a blazing fire after being stripped naked.

Residents who spoke with the local Radio Butaw lamented the attitude of people hiding under tradition to brutalize citizens is unacceptable and need serious attention. Report by Garmah Never Lomo, garmahlomo@gmail.com
