Young Women’s Actions for Rights, Peace and Development (YWARPD) has participated in a CSO Roadmap Validation Workshop organized by the Delegation of the European Union in Liberia.
The workshop, which was held on August 26, 2026 at the EU office in Mamba Point, provided an important platform to review and validate the CSO Roadmap, ensuring that it reflects the priorities, needs and aspirations of Liberia’s civil society sector.
The Roadmap will serve as a shared framework for strengthening coordination, collaboration, participation and the overall effectiveness of Civil Society Organizations in Liberia. YWARPD was represented by its Program Officer, Ms. Dairiuslene Johns and the meeting was also addressed virtually by the EU Ambassador to Liberia, H>E< Niona Deprez.
Speaking at the end of the workshop, Ms Johns welcomed the workshop as an important step towards building a stronger, more coordinated, inclusive and resilient civil society sector that can contribute meaningfully to Liberia’s Development. It can be recalled that in 2025, the EU provided support to YWARPD to undertake environmental training workshops for young women in Montserrado County under the theme: “Plant a Tree, Save a Life”
In a related development, Ms Johns has extolled young people in Bong County for their role in helping to bridge the gap between young people and local government authorities. Speaking recently in Gbarnga, Bong County at the end of a local Youth-Stakeholders meeting, she commended members of the Shadow Youth Parliament for committing themselves to civil responsibility and inclusive democracy and challenged them to step up and provide transparent updates on public resource allocation and local development projects.
She noted that as Liberia prepares for another round of elections in 2029, young people must rise up passive and rather than being viewed merely as beneficiaries or campaign crowds, young people take the position that they are vital stakeholders with actionable solutions.
She said that her organization YWARPD was working with the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) to mobilize young people and shift the way in which young people at the local level in Liberia engage with local stakeholders, including local government, lawmakers and school authorities on sensitive issues of accountability, corruption in the educational sector, elections, democracy, transparency and corruption.
The YWARPD Program Officer said her organization’s activities will seek to strengthen the capacities of young people to effectively communicate and interact with government and elected officials in non-threatening ways at local and national levels.
YWARPD was founded in July 2022 to serve as an advocacy mechanism and platform for young women participation in issues affecting their participation, development and survival. The organization grew out of the felt need to amplify the voice of young women.
The organization was founded by young women from a number of universities across Liberia and seeks to serve as the main platform for young women engagements in a number of activities affecting their development. YWARPD is a member of the Global Coalition for Democracy, the West African Youth Network (WAYN) and the Working Group for CSOs, Women and Private Sector for NAP Implementation in Liberia.
