The Coronavirus index case of an employee of ArcelorMittal in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County has triggered three other more cases in this port city, some 88 miles from the Liberian capital, Monrovia.
The iron ore mining company’s employee, whose name was not disclosed, was confirmed positive of the virus and admitted in hospital recently.
Now, the ArcelorMittal worker’s wife and two sisters have been tested positive for COVID-19 pandemic, the Grand Bassa County Health Officer, Dr. Anthony Tucker told www.newspublictrust.com on Saturday, May 16, 2020.
The three confirmed Coronavirus patients are now in isolation at the ArcelorMittal Liberia hospital in Buchanan.
On May 14 the ArcelorMittal management issued a press release confirming that one of its worker had come down with the virus.
“Contact tracing was launched at the time to track those with whom the staff might have come in contact with, and a number of staff were placed in precautionary isolation. Their condition has been monitored by suitably qualified doctors, with none displaying symptoms of Covid19.
The relevant county and national health authorities are closely involved and the County Health Team is overseeing management of the case. An investigation is ongoing to establish the possible source of infection.
