9-Year-Old Boy Shot Dead By Hunter In Lofa, Liberia

VOINJAMA, Liberia- A nine years old boy identify as James Forkpa has reportedly been shot dead by a hunter here in the northwestern Lofa County.

The incident occurred around 5pm on Tuesday in a town called Suwomai which is some – kilometers away from Voinjama city along the Monrovia highway.

According to family members, the nine years old boy had gone to fishing in a hereby creek while the hunter identify as Kortee Mulbah, age 33, was also on a hunting expedition around the same creek to where the 9-year-old boy was fishing.

The suspect, who reported himself, told Police investigators that he had mistaking the boy for a red- dear and wasted no time but to shot in the said direction without verifying what was actually shaking the bush.

He said after releasing the single barrel round, he later realized that he has shot a human and not a dear as he expected.

“I then cry out for help and was immediately assisted by an elderly man to rush the boy to the town but he died along the way due to the severity of the wounds he sustained,” suspect Mulbah explained.

Family members of the deceased are yet to make any official statement, but they have called on police to conduct proper investigation into the death of their son.

The 33-year-old suspect Kortee Mulbah is currently in police custody while investigation is continuing by the police.

It can be recalled that early this year an eight years old boy of the same Suwomai town died after a dry palm tree fell on him.
