A major bribery scam has been unearthed at the top of the Liberia National Police (LNP) high command, with a revelation that Deputy Police Commissioner, Johnny Bolor Dean has allegedly compromised the ongoing US$317 million cocaine seizure, LNP Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman told Journalists today, Thursday, July 23, 2026.

Deputy Police Commissioner Dean was swiftly relieved of his post and he is said to have been turned over the Professional Standards Division of the national police for disciplinary action.

.The Police IG said Dean has since admitted to receiving US $10,000 in bribes from the cocaine traffickers to compromise the investigation.

Although the now dismissed senior police officer received the thousands of US dollars in bribe from the cocaine traffickers, the Police IG said

Dean was not implicated in the drug trafficking operation itself, something that comprehensive investigations are yet to be established.

He is said to have allegedly compromised the integrity of the investigation by providing comfort and assistance to suspects already in police custody.

In a press statement in Monrovia yesterday, Wednesday, July 22, 2026, Liberia Justice Minister, Cllr. Oswald Tweh said:

“During operation, investigators recovered approximately 3,971 kilograms of processed plates of suspected cocaine, with an estimated street value of approximately US$317,680,000. The substances were seized and secured as evidence for further investigation and appropriate scientific examination.” Liberia Justice Min. This latest development of bribe taking by a top officer of the LNP in the second multi-million US dollars cocaine bust in over one month will not help in whipping up public speculations about some insiders’ possible collaboration with narcotic drug traffickers.

At the same time, the Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence and Criminal Investigation (Interim) has been directed to immediately assume Dean’s responsibilities while investigations continue. Coleman also warned that anyone found connected to the case will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with Liberian law.
