Urges More Concrete Actions On Middle East Crisis

Liberia, which recently became a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, has endorsed a two-state solution in the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflicts in the Middle East.
Speaking Tuesday on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question during the UN Security Council’s 10,207th meeting, Liberia Permanent Representative H.E. Ambassador Lewis Brown said in 1947 Liberia voted in favour of the UN Resolution 181 that calls for the creation of Jewish and Arab states.
According to him, Liberia has always stood for the political rights, security, and dignity of both people for over 79 years.
Ambassador Brown described the current situation as a serious threat to peace in the region and called on the United Nations to take precautionary action to preserve lasting peace.
He believes that children should have an absolute right to a better future that is defined by peace and not perpetual war.
The seasoned Liberian diplomat wants the council action to be measured by protection, return, accountability, and viability.
The Liberian envoy observed that the council is not presiding over a “two-state solution” but presiding over its slow-motion disappearance with too many diplomatic declarations.
Liberia urged Israelis to provide Palestinian rights and civilian protection and condemned attacks against Israeli civilians, saying violence can’t end the conflict.
