At her daily press briefing yesterday, Wednesday, October 18, 2023, the Chairman of the National Elections Commission (NEC), Davidetta Browne Lansanah has said protests from some dissatisfied candidates in the October 10 poll have begun to pour into NEC’s hearing office.

Among the dissatisfied candidates is Montserrado County District #2 Representative Candidate, Bishop Nimely J. Doryan, who has disqualified results coming from NEC, which declared his rival, Sekou Kanneh of the main opposition Unity Party (UP) the winner.

Bishop Nimely J. Donyen contested as an Independent Candidate.

He claims victory over his rival, Sckou Kanneh of the Unity Party with a 1317 votes margin stating that he obtained a total vote of, 9,444, while Kanneh got 8,127 votes. Mr. Kanneh will be returning to the Capitol Building having represented the district previously in the House of Representatives. But he was booted out in the 2017 elections.

NEC in its Tuesday, October 17, 2023 pronouncement, put Unity Party candidate Sekou Kanneh in the lead with 9965 votes which is 22.36% while Bishop Doryan received 9432 with 21.17% with a hundred tally completed from one hundred and twenty-eight polling places.

In his letter of complaint to the NEC, Bishop Donyen noted that NEC erred by not announcing him as the winner of the October 10, 2023 Election.

Speaking in an interview with this Reporter on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, in Paynesville City, Bishop Donyen called on the NEC to correct the mistake and announce him winner of the Representative Seat of Electoral District#2 in Montserrado County.

“Mathematics does not lie. The tally sheets from the 19 Voting Precincts of Electoral District Number Two Montserrado County tell the District that we got the highest votes in Our District at the end of the October 10, 2023 Election. The truth is, WE WON THE OCTOBER 10, 2023 Election for the House of Representatives in Electoral District Number Two, Montserrado County, the Republic of Liberia,” Bishop Donyen claimed.

Bishop Doryan, who used to be a Catholic Priest but broke away from the Catholic Church became the first bishop of the Independent Catholic Church of Liberia (ICCL) years ago, said that “rumors of a deal to announce the wrong winner of the Representative Election in District Number Two, Montserrado County, Republic of Liberia had been in Our District since Wednesday, October 11, 2023’.

He is therefore, demanding NEC to recount or see an urgent reason to have their mistake corrected or will use unspecified actions.

The Hearing Officer National Elections Commission (NEC) Of Liberia Sinkor Monrovia Liberia

Dear Hearing Officer:

Mathematics does not lie. The tally sheets from the Nineteen Voting Precincts of Electoral District Number Two, Montserrado County, say that I got the highest votes in Electoral District Number Two, Montserrado County, Republic of Liberia, at the end of the October 10, 2023 General Election in said District.

Unfortunately, the National Elections Commission (NEC) of Liberia erred by not announcing me, Independent Candidate Nimely J. Donyen, as winner of the October 10, 2023 Election. I am therefore asking the National Elections Commission (NEC) of Liberia to correct the mistake and announce me, Independent Candidate Nimely J Donyen, winner of the Representative Seat of Electoral District Number Two, Montserrado County, Republic of Liberia.

To make it easy for NEC to realize her mistake, I request a perusal of all the tally sheets and a recount of the ballots.

Very truly yours,

Nimely J. Donyen Independent Candidate
