GRANDCESS, Liberia—The southeastern city of Grandcess in Grand Kru County is preparing to be transformed into a major tourism and entertainment site, as construction continues on a modern tourist center, which is expected to provide residents and visitors space for recreation, celebrations and cultural activities.

The project, being spearheaded by Mrs. Theresa Wredi Cephas, is expected to introduce a new standard of leisure and entertainment to Grand Kru, which is about 600 kilometers from Monrovia on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean.

As part of the planned dedication, Mrs. Cephas will also officially turn over a modern band set purchased for the people of Grandcess, providing the community with additional equipment for musical performances and public celebrations.

The tourist center is being developed with a distinctive cultural design, including traditional-style houses painted white, while facilities are expected to accommodate swimming, weddings, birthday parties, family gatherings and other events.

Organizers say the official opening is tentatively scheduled for August 24 or August 29, 2026, with the final date yet to be confirmed.

Meanwhile, work remains ongoing at the site as construction crews continue completing the buildings and other preparations ahead of the dedication.

The project is expected to become a new recreational and cultural landmark for Grandcess and, if completed as planned, could represent the first modern tourist center of its kind in Grand Kru County.
