‎‎The Liberia National Police (LNP) has arrested and formally charged Melvin Myers, an officer of the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA), in relations to the death of a civilian during a security operation in the Paynesville suburb of Monrovia.‎

‎In a statement, the LNP disclosed that Myers has been charged with manslaughter and forwarded to court following an investigation into a ghetto raid carried out by the LDEA on December 15, 2025. The operation reportedly occurred near Menetama Beach, behind the Baptist Theological Seminary.‎

‎Police reports indicate that during the raid, Myers allegedly attacked Alex Grant, a 20-year-old resident of the Cooper’s Farm Community in Paynesville. Grant later succumbed to injuries reportedly sustained during the incident.‎

‎The LNP explained that the arrest and legal action came after a comprehensive probe into the circumstances surrounding the victim’s death. However, authorities have yet to release further details regarding the alleged assault or the current status of the court proceedings.‎

‎The incident has sparked public concern and renewed demands for accountability within Liberia’s law enforcement institutions.

The LNP reaffirmed its commitment to the rule of law, emphasizing that any officer found to have violated the law will be held accountable.
