The Liberian government has announced that parents will no longer be required to pay registration fees for pupils attending public primary schools across the country.
The policy applies to students from kindergarten through the sixth grade and is intended to ease the financial burden on families as schools prepare for a new academic year.
Speaking in an interview on state radio ELBC today, Wednesday, August 5, 2026, Education Minister Dr. Jarso Jallah said the decision reflects the government’s commitment to improving access to education and supporting parents who are facing economic challenges.
She explained that the government will assume responsibility for all expenses associated with the registration process. She emphasized that no parent should be asked to pay any amount of money to enroll a child in a public primary school.
According to the Education Minister, the initiative is designed to encourage greater enrollment and ensure that every child has an opportunity to receive a quality education, regardless of the financial circumstances of their family.
Dr. Jallah added that the Ministry of Education will work closely with school administrators to ensure the policy is effectively implemented nationwide.
The announcement has been welcomed by many parents and education advocates, who believe the measure will help remove barriers to education and increase school attendance among children across Liberia.
Authorities have also urged the Liberian public to report any violations of the directive by school administrators.
