Many months after US$100M worth of the narcotic drug, entered Liberian through its main seaport, Freeport of Monrovia, another batch of illicit drug, methamphetamine has entered the country through the only international airport, RIA.

Recently, boxes of what has now been confirmed as substances containing methamphetamine, reportedly came through and left the airport without proper custom inspection.

Scientists say this substance is dangerous with several warnings given about the harmful effects.

“Methamphetamine may cause new or worsening psychosis (unusual thoughts or behavior), especially if you have a history of depression, mental illness, or bipolar disorder,” according to drugs.com. Methamphetamine Uses, Side Effects, Warnings – Drugs.com

Few months ago, several persons arrested and charged by the Justice Ministry in connection to the US$100M cocaine were set free by the Criminal Court in Monrovia due to the government’s lack of enough evidence to prosecute the cases.

Monrovia, September 12, 2023: The Ministry of Justice, through the Joint Security of Liberia, has confirmed that the consignment of boxes it intercepted containing.

herbal plants – packaged and in natural form – at the Roberts International Airport reveals a presence of methamphetamine.

As part of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency’s investigation, which included scientific examination, samples tested revealed the presence of the illicit drug, which is banned under the rules of United Nations Office of Drugs and Crimes, UNODC.

The Minister of Justice Cllr. Frank Musah Dean Jr. has with immediate effect ordered the Joint Security of Liberia, as well as the LDEA, LNP and the NSA, to expand their investigations on the importation of the illegal drugs with the aim of bringing to justice all those involved.

The public will be duly updated as progress is made on the investigation and in the wider fight against illicit drugs and transnational criminals.
