Ahead of the resumption of the Orange National League in Liberia, Orange National League-2nd Division Club Mighty Blue Angels won a two- days soccer tournament organized by the neighbors Tony FC styled “Dr. Daniel E. Cassell Foundation Cup”.
The tournament brought together teams from the lower end of Margibi County with office kickoff on Saturday, September 11 at the Unification Town Sports Pitch that brought thousands of spectaors cheering the respective clubs.
Over the weekend (September 11, 2021) Mighty Blue Angels won Sandi FC 2-1 in the day open fixture to booked a space in the grand final while host Tony FC won a comfortable 3-1 win over newly promoted Orange National League-1st Division Club Sandi FC.
Team SUSA is the current champions of Margibi County in the LFA-MARGIBI Subassociation Green Petroleum Third Division League while SAND I FC got promoted to the top tier league in Liberia.
At the grand final at the jam packed Unification Town Sports Pitch on Sunday, September 12 with huge spectators including the like of Momo Cyrus Board Chair Mighty Blue Angels along with it’s club president George Your,CEO Tony Margibi Danukia of Tony FC,Manja Boakai, President of Clubs President of Liberia, CPAL and CEO of MUSCAT FC,Kolubah Zayzay SWAL president, among others.
It was Nathaniel Tokpah’s lone goal in the first half from a beautiful strike for Mighty Blue Angels that secured a narrow 1-0 win over Tony FC after a tense and beautiful football displayed .
The goal was the only goal scored in the match which secured the championship for the Harbel based club Mighty Blue Angels.
Making the presentation of a giant-size trophy, the CEO of the Dr. Cassell E. Foundation thanked the people of Unification along with Tony FC fir such Intiative.
“I want to be clear on this we started with Tony FC and we are going to continue with them,” .said Dr. Cassell, who is also political leader of the new opposition People’s Liberation Party (PLP).
“Club Tony FC remains my partner but I open to other football club because I believed in helping the youth who has passion to play football in Liberia but rather out of the country,” said Cassell.
Mighty Blue Angels walked away with LD 85,000.000 along with a giant size trophy while runner-up Tony FC pockets LD 51,000.000.
A month ago, Dr.Daniel E. Cassell on behalf of the Dr.Daniel Cassell foundation presented a check of USD 6,000.00 as second instalment to officials of Tony FC as it sponsorship.
Since the partnership of the Foundation, Tony FC secured a 32-seater bus with advertisement of the foundation on the bus and team materials.
Tony FC becomes the only team so far in Margibi County to have a 32-seated bus and more over among few teams to have a team bus in Liberia .
Tony FC opens the new season on 30 October in an away fixture to MUSCAT FC at the SKD PP with several new signings making the official debut for the club while Mighty Blue Angels battles newly promoted 2nd Division outfit, Bong Rangers FC at the David Kuyion Sports Stadium in Gbarnga,Bong County
James Tarpeh, alais ” Messi” scored on his debut on day one of the tournament.
Dr.Cassell has contributed a lot most especially in Margibi County.He presented USD 5,000.00 plus mattresses, sacks of water, beddings, including lodging to the Margibi Sports Association (MSA) during the just ended National County Sports Meet, with Margibi County winning third place both in kickball and football.
