They Want This Done Ahead Of Future Elections

TUBMANBURG, Liberia- Scores of men representing various organizations in the western Bomi County have pledged their full support to advancing women’s political participation across the county.
The commitment was made on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 during a day-long engagement organized by the Positive Change Women and Girls Initiative (POCHAWOIN) and the Women NGO Secretariat of Liberia (WONGOSOL) here in Tubmanburg.
The forum brought together male leaders, youth representatives, district officials, and heads of community-based organizations to discuss barriers to women’s leadership and how men can become allies in closing the gender gap in politics.
Speaking on behalf of local government, Konah D. Musa, Administrative Assistant in the Office of the County Superintendent, represented the entire local leadership of Bomi County at the engagement.
Mr. Musa noted that Bomi County is currently led by a female Superintendent, and that her leadership demonstrates the county’s commitment to women’s inclusion.
“The Superintendent’s office stands with women. Because our Superintendent herself is a woman, she stands ready to support other women and to create space for them to lead at every level in Bomi,” Mr. Musa assured participants.
He added that the county administration will work with partners to ensure policies and opportunities reflect the 30 percent target for women’s political participation.
Also speaking, Momo P. Seh, Commissioner of Klay District, pledged his personal and district-level support for the 30 percent target.
Commissioner Seh stated, “As Commissioner of Klay District, I give my full 30 percent support to women’s political participation. We have capable women in Klay who are ready to lead, and we as men must stand behind them.”
Speaking after the engagement, several of the men who attended said they recognize the progress already made in Bomi. According to them, women currently hold several key local positions across the county — a development they noted was not happening in the past.
The participants described the growing presence of women in leadership as proof that change is possible when communities work together to support inclusion.
As part of their resolution, the men committed to ensuring that the 30 percent target for women’s political participation is achieved in Bomi County, ahead of future elections.
They further pledged to continue supporting women candidates and challenging harmful norms that limit women’s leadership.
In closing, the men encouraged other men in Bomi and across Liberia to join the fight for gender equality, stressing that women’s political participation benefits the entire county and strengthens democracy at the grassroots.
