A man said to be in his late 30s, Mr. Eric Wallace, has allegedly committed suicide in Harper, Maryland County, Southeastern Liberia about 250 mile/430 kilometers from Monrovia.

Reports from the area say the tragic incident happened in the compound of a local charismatic church today (Saturday, January 4, 2020) in Stadium Road Community, Harper City, when Eric allegedly hanged himself from a tree.

It happened at the Stadium Road Prayer Band in the port city of Harper.

The act was allegedly committed four days after the late Eric Wallace was taken to the church for prayers between the early morning hours of 5-6 Am GMT.

It is not known what the nature of his condition was before the incident.

His colleagues, who had gone for prayer at the church compound, said they noticed that Eric slipped out of the room while they were asleep.

So when they got up for early morning devotion, he was nowhere to be seen, prompted an immediate search for him.

He was later discovered hanging from a tree right on the church compound.

After being rushed to hospital, Eric was pronounced dead on Saturday,

The incident has sent shock waves across the port city of Harper and the Liberia National Police have launched an investigation into circumstance surrounding this tragedy, just four days into the New Year, 2020.
