Monrovia- A prominent Liberian Journalist and Managing Editor of www.newspublictrust.com, Frank Sainworla, Jr. has warned that the Liberian news media and Journalism worldwide, is under serious threat due to the rise of the Social Media/internet and the undercutting of advertisment.
Speaking on Radio Bushrod 98.1 FM live phone-in talk show—LIBERIA IN THE MORNING today, Friday, June 12, 2026, Sainwola said independent Journalism is particularly facing threat from people in the public and private sectors who reject investigative, truthful and fair reporting of news and information.
He renewed earlier call for national and international endowment fund to be established, so as to support the independent media, which he said is crucial to building any vibrant democracy and saving rules-based international order in our world today.
Journalist Sainworla, who was once Secretary General of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL), former Head of the English Desk of the Dakar-based West Africa Democracy Radio and Station Manager of Radio Veritas in Monrovia, also encouraged Liberian media outlets to find creative ways to keep independent Journalism alive.
According to him, the world could be headed for doom if independent journalism ceases to exist, giving credit to a series of robust professional reportage of troubling developments in the Middle East, Africa and other parts of the world, something that has exposed the deeds of belligerents and war mongers.
The traditional media such as newspapers and radio stations in Liberia are now struggling due to the emergence of the social media and other internet platforms that have taken away advertisements and other businesses.
Journalist Sainworla is also an Author, who published a book back in 2011 capturing his international experience, travel and coverage titled, BORDERLESS BEATS. Borderless Beats: Seeking Hope and Help for Our World: A Liberian Journalist’s Worldview: 9780984400560: Books – Amazon.ca
