People’s Liberation Party Sec. General Sent To Court, After Shooting Himself

PAYNESVILLE, Liberia- The Secretary General of one of Liberia’s newest political parties, People’s Liberation Party (PLP) of Dr. Daniel Cassell, David W. Beyan, who recently shot himself in the leg, has today,  Wednesday (October 6, 2021) appeared in court near Monrovia.

His appearance at the Paynesville Magisterial court comes after he was investigated and charged by Liberia National Police for prosecution after allegedly shooting himself in the leg, although he had earlier fake the incident by telling the local media that he was instead shot by unknown gunmen recently.

The PLP has since suspended him. In the wake of the incident, some top expelled PLP officials told local radio stations in Monrovia that there was alleged gun culture in the party..

Defendant Beyan was charged with possession and sale of physical objects for lethal use, false public Alarm and false report to law enforcement.

According to police charge sheet, the Anti-robbery arrested defendant Beyan and acquainted with his constitutional rights thoroughly investigated him and charged him with the charged mentioned above in violation of Chapter 17 and 12, Section 17.11, 17.4 and 12.33 of the Revised penal code of Liberia.

On Saturday, October 2,2021 at 0900hrs, the Crime services department of the Liberia National police through the weekend online edition of the Frontpage Africa received an information of shooting incident involving the Secretary General of the People’s Liberation Party in which it was alleged that he trailed by person believed to be motorcyclist at his Thomas Beyan compound residence in soul clinic for an unspecified time on September 24,2021, and was undergoing medical treatment at the JFK in Monrovia.

Verbally admits to Police

During Police CSD indepth investigation conducted with defendant Beyan, he is said to have verbally told the investigators that he mistakenly shot himself on the left thigh, when he was in his gray jeep license plate DWB 1 on September 24,2021,but failed to pen down his confession.

The investigation further established that during a search of  defendant Beyan’s silver Jeep, during that time a bullet mark was seen in the inner compartment of the driver door, while, the gun (a silver revolver pistol) that he mistakenly shot himself with, was retrieved from him.

Findings of the investigation

Police said after a careful analysis of the crime scene as well as the suspect medical report, the investigation established the following:

That the crime possession and sale of physical objects for lethal use, public Alarm and false report to law enforcement official was established in that defendant Beyan falsely reported that he was shot by unknown armed men for unspecified reason which was not true.

That defendant Beyan having shot himself failed to report to requisite authorities but porported that some unknown men shot him which instilled fear to his community and the public at large.

That law of the Republic of Liberia did not authorize defendant Beyan to have firearm in his possession.
