PUL Constitutes 2022 World Press Freedom Day and Awards Committees

Monrovia- The Press Union of Liberia has named the preparatory and the Awards Vetting Committees for this year’s World Press Freedom Day celebration.

The Union according to a release said this year’s World Press Freedom Day celebration will be held in River Gee County, according to a PUL press release.

The United Nations General Assembly declared May 3 each year as World Press Freedom Day to raise awareness on the importance of freedom of the press and remind governments of their duty to respect and uphold the rights to freedom of expression enshrined under Article 19 of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights and marking the anniversary of the Windhoek Declaration.

In Liberia, the Press has remained strong in implementing the Windhoek Free Press standard innovated together by African newspaper journalists in 1999, the basis for the UN Declaration.

Journalists will in the lead up to the World Press Freedom Day increase their attention on the people of River Gee County, their leaders, and Non- governmental Organizations on problems confronting the region.

Those appointed to the 2022 World Press Freedom Day (WPFD) Preparatory Committee and the Awards Vetting Committee are as follow:
