In keeping with the Constitution, the leadership of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) has constituted four of the five Permanent Committees of the Union, with the appointments of a diverse and competent team of 36 distinguished Liberian journalists, media and communication professionals.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, PUL President Julius Kanubah said that the appointments aim to activate and enhance the effective and inclusive governance of the PUL after years of institutional paralysis.

Kanubah expressed delight that the PUL is steadily being restored, applauding those appointed for agreeing to make their services available to the Union in these crucial times of institutional restoration.

The PUL President admonished those appointed to serve with distinction, integrity, and dignity, urging them to take their appointments as one of the highest honors and callings in the service and interest of the PUL and the integrity of journalism, media and communication.

The following encompasses the list of the constituted Permanent Committees and the respective appointees:

Together, the 36 Liberian journalists, media and communication professionals bring together over three decades of outstanding work and solid education credentials, along with a strong reputation of professionalism, credibility, excellence, and impartiality.

Importantly, all appointed Chairpersons automatically qualify to serve on the Executive Committee, which is the second highest decision-making body of the Union next to Congress.

The PUL leadership is committed to working with the Permanent Committees to initiate and institutionalize policy reforms to strengthen the PUL.

In the coming days, the PUL leadership will announce the next set of appointments to affect the Standing Committee on Grievance and Ethics, which was transformed into the National Media Council; the Constitution Review Committee; the Special Project Committee for the Construction of PUL Headquarters; and other ad-hoc Committees as well as the leadership of the PUL subchapters in the Counties and Regions.

Signed:

Julius Kanubah

President/PUL
